Outlook New and OWA freezing Microsoft Q&A

" The problem of slow browser performance affects users of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft... If you’re not using Outlook advanced features, a lighter email account tool may be an option—but consult with your IT team first. Sometimes a Windows update or app update—meant to fix things—ends up causing the problem. Especially if you’re using a different version of Windows, this can break compatibility with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook configuration files. It needs enough RAM, processing power, and hard drive space to work properly.

If you’re still having problems, try resetting your Windows Firewall settings back to how they were originally. Running the /resetnavpane command removes all customizations to the navigation pane. If the troubleshooter can't fix your issue, or if you'd like to fix it yourself, see the next section.

How to Close Unresponsive Outlook on WindowsOpen Task Manager: Right-click on the taskbar and select "Task Manager" or use the Ctrl+Shift+Esc shortcut.Locate Outlook Process: In the Processes tab, find the "Outlook" process.End the Task: Right-click on the "Outlook" process and select "End Task."More items...

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support. To access the tool, open Control Panel and select "Uninstall a Program." You can start Outlook in safe mode, disable your add-ins, and then try to open Outlook normally.

If you’re still having problems, you can try resetting your Windows Firewall settings back to default. Once the add-ins are disabled, close Outlook 2016 and restart the application normally to check whether it now opens as normal or not. You can determine if it's corrupted by creating a new profile and changing which profile is used when Outlook starts.

Your Outlook profile holds all your account settings and data configurations. If this profile becomes corrupted, it might fail to load or cause Outlook to crash upon opening. Such corruption could result from improper shutdowns, software conflicts, or corrupted files within the profile. You’ve probably already tried to start Outlook a few times, checked your internet connection, and restarted your device. But Microsoft’s email client still won’t open, leaving you cut off from your important messages, schedule, and contacts. Microsoft regulatory releases new updates for Outlook and Windows (or macOS).

Start Outlook in safe mode to fix "Processing" screenIn Windows 10, choose Start, type Outlook.exe /safe, and press Enter. In Windows 7, choose Start, and in the Search programs and files box, type Outlook /safe, and then press Enter. In Windows 8, on the Apps menu, choose Run, type Outlook /safe, and then choose OK.

And now you can’t access your important data and your messages. Find solutions to common problems or get help from a support agent. If you need to update your email's POP or IMAP account settings, please go to POP and IMAP step-by-step Outlook troubleshooting account settings for more information. If setup failed, choose Change Account Settings. Update the account information with the one you received from your email provider or from the POP and IMAP server name reference topic.

Give Outlook a few minutes to finish the process and it should start to work again. I decided to try and fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling. I also removed some old add-ins and an old, inactive account (but Outlook worked no problem with these for a long time).

The Inbox repair tool can resolve problems by scanning your Outlook data files, and repairing errors. To use the Inbox repair tool, exit Outlook, and then follow the steps in Repair Outlook Data Files (.pst and .ost). In the first place, check whether your antivirus is up-to-date. Reliable and trusted antivirus software vendors do care about compatibility with Microsoft Office applications, so there is a good chance that the issue is fixed in their latest update. If the above does not help, turn off the antivirus and see if it brings Outlook back to life.

In some scenarios, doing so fixes the "Outlook will not open" issue. However, if installing updates doesn’t fix the problem, then try to repair your Office programs. Then, you can try to start Outlook 2016 in Safe Mode and then check which add-in is causing Outlook issues, disabling that add-in.

One reason Outlook fails to launch is that you’ve installed faulty add-ins in the app. These add-ins may be working incorrectly, causing the app not to launch. If you can't choose any of the menu options, type inside an email message, calendar event, or contact, Outlook may have frozen. There are three steps you can take to try to get Outlook working again.

Maybe you've added a new program to your computer that doesn't get along with Outlook, or your system has a virus. Regardless of the specific cause, there are several key troubleshooting fixes to try that might help. This command clears any broken settings related to the navigation pane and can frequently fix startup issues. Below, we’ll guide you through a series of solutions, from simple, quick fixes to more in-depth repairs, to help you get Outlook up and running again. If it starts without any problems, you can check step-by-step Outlook troubleshooting the add-ins. Moreover, it will help you to get the answer to which add-in is causing the issue.
